Static Somewhere
2017
16 pages, 8.5" x 11", hardcover pamphlet

Static Somewhere is about the ever-changing consumer landscape and unfamiliarity of storefronts after hours. I became interested in the way that businesses and stores choose to advertise themselves and draw outsiders to their stores, and began honing in on buildings with vague and unusual signs, or no advertising at all. I began to photograph stores that evoked an emotional response of uneasiness due to the uncertainty of the establishment, whether that is through eerie outward appearance or the lack of human presence. The collection of photographs shifts from open businesses to stores that have reclaimed buildings that once housed another storefront, and then buildings that are under construction and devoid of merchandise inside, undergoing a transitional period. Each photograph is paired with the address of the location the photograph was taken as a statement that even though the structure, appearance, and name of the building may continuously be changing, the street address never does.
